Shepards Wharf, Cowes
Sat 3rd October 2009

Report and photos by Clifford Miller, Abacus P275.

The forecast for Saturday 3rd October was West Force 5 to 7 occasionally 8!

Those who made it were:

Arrived Friday in reasonable weather:

  • Juno - P275 (ex Nosey Parker), Mike & Helen Slade
  • Many Moons -P31,  Keith & Ann Bellingham
  • Abacus - P275, Clifford Miller with Graeme Lindsay (owner of P325 Mayflower)

Arrived Saturday in the forecast weather:

  • Dawn -P21, Geoff Turner with broken mast along the cabin top

Also "Guest Appearance" Saturday afternoon: Macoma, Phil & Carol Walden.

After giving some assistance to Geoff to tidy up his broken rig, it was "drinks on board" Abacus and then a stroll up to the Duke of York where we took up just under half of our booked seats (no problem). Our "gang of seven" already knew each other quite well with 5 veterans of the Seine Bay cruise 1999, 5 survivors of the Havre Rotheneuf gales (North Brittany Cruise 2008) and 5 west country cruisers of 2009.

A convivial evening as always - a pity about the weather.

Thanks to Peter Lowry for organising the event (an engineless Cleo left him on the main land).
