Parkstone YC/Poole Harbour
27th-29th August  2011

One of the joys of retirement is that one can start out for a rally early and this we did, taking the tide from Chichester Harbour to Hythe, we enjoyed a leisurely pace and a comfortable berth for the night.

The following morning we were joined by our friend Neil who had agreed to spend a few days with us and again we caught the tide which pushed us down the Western Solent in a brisk wind right on the nose. A long leg out into Poole Bay with one tack down the Swashway and in no time at all we were being welcomed by Graham and his team at Parkstone.

We appeared to have taken over the catering facilities with our large gathering of Parkers and Seals some 9 boats having arrived by water and a further 8 by road. We were treated to an excellent buffet. Once we had eaten a group of skiff sailors arrived to demolish the remainder of the buffet and we were treated to a wonderful slide show of skiffs in action in Poole Bay.

The following day we broke up into small groups, some exploring Poole Harbour by boat and others using their bus passes to good advantage. By Sunday evening the weather looked set fair for a few days and the Solent contingent took advantage of this the following morning with a downwind sail home. With time on our hands we elected to go on to Alderney and had a sparkling sail arriving in time for tea.

Thanks to Barbara Forster as organiser. and special thanks to Graham and Jan Reed who acted as hosts at Parkstone and arranged food and berths etc.
