Yarmouth/Folly rally
3rd/4th May 2014

Report and photos by Tim Reeder

We had a very enjoyable May bank holiday rally with pretty good weather but rather chilly nights. On Saturday light winds saw us arrive at Yarmouth with one or two already installed beforehand. We had 13 boats and most of the crews attended a very stylish dinner with glorious evening sunshine at the Royal Solent Yacht Club. The club has a great position overlooking the Solent and there is not a better place to enjoy socialising. The staff at the club had provided a very well laid out Members Lounge for us and we all enjoyed the ambience of a long standing traditional Solent Yacht Club.

On Sunday we had light winds again and used the tide to get to the Folly. Some stopped off in Cowes for further relaxation. We all gathered at the Folly for another beautiful evening and enjoyable meal right next to the Medina. We also celebrated Roz Lockwood's and Helen Slade's birthdays (see picture). We then managed to pack nearly 20 members onto Juno for a post prandial celebration with repeat Happy Birthday renditions..

On Monday we had some more lively winds and we had a very enjoyable fast sail on one tack back to Chichester. This finished off an excellent weekend and made us look forward to the next rally.

Thanks to all who attended, and to the staff and officers at the Royal Solent for looking after us so well.
