AGM Arrangements for the weekend of 5th to 7th February 2016

Tim Reeder, our Commodore, has kindly offered to organise the venues and locations of potential visits in the Southampton area.

AGM Venue

The main venue will be the Royal Southampton Yacht Club. The AGM on Sunday morning (7th Feb) will be followed by a buffet lunch.

Outline Activities

Friday 5th

For those who might want to arrive early on Friday the 5th or other local members we have a provisional tour arranged to go round Southampton VTS following the successful precedent last year when we visited Harwich VTS. There is a limit to this of 16 so it will be a question of first come first serve for bookings.

Saturday 6th

Saturday will have a relaxed theme with various alternatives for people to take up. For those interested in planes - especially old ones - not far from Ocean Village is the Solent Sky Museum. This gives you a history of the development of aircraft in the Solent including the Spitfire. It looks great for those who are into such things. You can sit in an Harrier cockpit which is nearly as exciting as a Parker or Seal cockpit!

For those wanting history of the sea, there is the excellent Sea City museum. This gives the Southampton perspective on the Titanic amongst many other things. There may not be many tales of woe or success concerning Parker and Seals on display but we will look in to giving them a Battle Flag!

For those wanting a more organised tour followed by a drink we are looking at having a City Walls walk organised with local guides. This promises to be very interesting and offers a 20% discount on some beer at the Dancing Man to finish with. The cost is £5 each. We need at least 10 people to commit to this for it to go ahead.

Finally, we can of course offer the vast resources of West Quay and the surrounding area for Saturday afternoon shopping for those who need to sort out their outfits for the AGM or for anything else! In the evening we have a meal organised at the at the Duke of Wellington pub in the centre of old Southampton.

Accommodation booking

We have reserved 20 rooms until 01 Jan 2016 at the Dolphin Mercure Hotel - price £90 B&B per couple per night. This is well situated in the historic part of Southampton. Car parking is available at £5 per night. Rooms are available for Saturday night and Friday as well. Please say you are with the PSSA when booking.

There are several other hotels available which should be a bit cheaper including The Premier Inn West Quay and the Ibis Southampton Centre

Update 18 Jan

We now have 60 attendees for the AGM and buffet lunch, which is as many as the room can hold. However, all members have a right to attend the AGM, so if you haven't yet booked and are planning to come, please contact Tim Reeder to let him know.
