Notice of Race and Event Particulars

The race will be the inshore course within the Solent, not around the island

(New information in italics)

The start of the race is between the Committee Boat and the ELEPHANT BOAT YARD racing marker located at 50deg 44.72mins 01deg 21.95mins.  This is 3nm SW of Cowes, near Thorness Bay and Salt Mead Ledge.

The finish line is between No Mans Land Fort and the sunken Port Hand Marker at 50deg 44.2mins 1 deg 06 mins W.  Latest finish is at 18:00.

Paul Ryan's Yacht "Altair" Starlight 35 will be officiating on the day (Look out for the Seal banner).  This is because I intend to take part and I cannot double-up as Race Officer!

The starting sequence will include a 5-minute preparation signal and a one-minute warning signal before the start.  Paul will collect times and place competitors.

Start at 14:00 all competitors

Rules of Sailing

The Rules of Sailing in the 2021 membership (these have been updated and will be used, the version on the web site is being updated).

Details of rigs and handicaps will be collected at the start.  We will sort out the scoring in the pub later.

Names, boat names, handicaps and fleets will be confirmed just before the start of the race.

Final instructions and countdown will be given on Channel 72 (previously channel M2 was proposed but not all radios may have this channel).

The starting sequence will be per RYA Rules of Sailing.  Signals and start signal will be called out on radio.

Practical Arrangements for Accommodation

The Elephant Boatyard racing mark is within reasonable distance from Cowes (4nm), Lymington (6nm), Yarmouth (5nm), Beaulieu (6nm).  This allows a selection of marinas for those staying overnight on their boats on Friday.  Competitors must arrange their own accommodation for Friday night.

Saturday night there will be a group booking at Haslar Marina in Portsmouth Harbour for berths.

Those registering for the race are:
