PSSA East Coast Rally – 21st – 22nd August 2021

We hope you will be able to join us for this rally.

Tides

                                    H/W Harwich                L/W Harwich                 H/W Bradwell

Friday 20th August         1045  3.61m                 1653  0.68m                 1115

Saturday 21st August     1144  3.79m                 1750  0.48m                 1215

Sunday 22nd August       1233  3.93m                 1837  0.35m                 1300

The aim is to meet up at Bradwell Marina for a meal in the Green Man on Saturday night. We have chosen this weekend for the tides. Hopefully those coming from the north can take the rising tide southwards in the morning on Saturday and then have a sail on the Blackwater, while those coming from the south can take the falling tide northwards in the afternoon to join us. Those already based on the Blackwater can just sail out to join us. The marina is best entered 4 hours either side of H/W as the entrance is very shallow – perfectly possible for a lift keel boat but be cautious of the tide taking you sideways. On the Sunday we can reverse the options with those sailing south having the early start and those sailing north can have a lie in! There is also the possibility of a walk around the sea wall to St Peter’s chapel in the morning on Sunday if you are waiting for the tide or staying longer.

We are based at Woolverstone on the River Orwell and, weather permitting, plan to start our trip on the Friday by sailing round to the Walton Backwaters and anchoring overnight to slightly reduce the distance on Saturday and give us more of a lie in! Anyone in the area is more than welcome to join us.

If you normally trail your 21/235 you are more than welcome to join us. The Royal Harwich Yacht Club (our home club) has a gentle slip that can accommodate trailers and has a marina, where you might be able to moor the boat overnight.

Please can you let me know if you plan to join the rally so I can book you into the marina at Bradwell (they require a week’s notice so please let us know before 14th August) and tell me how many people would like to eat at the pub on Saturday night – again so I can make the appropriate booking. Please let me know the type of Parker/Seal and her name. Thanks.

The PSSA is the class association for Parker and Seal lift keel yachts and other types of shallow draft yachts.
As an active, friendly club with almost 350 members, it organises rallies, social events and an annual race around the Isle of Wight.
Seals and Parkers are British-built yachts, ranging in length from 21' to 33', mostly with lifting keels. They started with the Seal 22 in 1970, built by John Baker, and followed by the Seal 28 and Super Seal 26. In 1981, Bill Parker took over the range and added the Parker 21, Parker 27 and Parker 31. These then evolved into a high-quality range of cruiser-racers built by Parker Lift-Keel Yachts - the trailable Parker 235, the Parker 285 and the Parker 335. In 2009, Parker Lift-Keel yachts ceased trading.
