Many regular visitors to Chichester Harbour approaching from the west will be aware of and use the inshore swatchway between Sandy point (SE corner of Hayling Island) and the winner bank. This narrow channel generally available from about half tide upwards can be less than 100m wide and defined by the breakers on the bank and the groyne markers on the Hayling shore. It's a useful short cut into the harbour. Last weekend I noticed that the most important marker; on the eastmost and largest rock groyne was missing. The stubs show close to low water but when they do there is insufficient water to use the channel.

I have notified Havant Borough Council's sea defence team and stressed the need for a quick repair, I will update when I see the marker reinstated.

In the meantime I think I will keep clear.
