I up graded the original Navionics Compact flash card from my C series Raymarine plotter around 18 months ago. The plotter reverted to basic map shapes towards the end of last season. It turned out that the compact flash card was corrupted and could no longer be read. The card was an 8GB card with the Navionics information of 2GB, partitioned on the card. The engineer advised me that cards of larger than 2GB could potentially damage the plotter. A Raymarine engineer also repeated this: " Please note that CompactFlash cards greater than 2GB total capacity must not be used as there may be a risk of hardware damage to early C and E Classic displays. This limitation also applies to cartography that is contained within a 2GB partition on a higher capacity CompactFlash card - the cartography can only be used on a card no greater than 2GB total capacity."
I have spoken to Navimaps/Navionics who say that they only have the 8GB cards and that customers do not seem to have had any problems with it.
I wondered if anyone else has found this problem and in particular if any damage had resulted to their plotter.
