Query from Richard Stokes in Lymington:

A friend of mine has a Seal Sinbad and he has replaced the original rudder with one that he has made out of carbon-fibre. I trust his workmanship as he used to work for Jeremy Rogers in Lymington (Contessa). What does perturb me somewhat is that the boat's ballast will now be askew. I wonder if any of your members know the approximate weight of the original rudder. Unfortunately my friend did not weigh the original rudder before disposing of it. We might even consider purchasing a rudder should one be available. Any help or suggestions welcome.

My brother-in-law Brian Teather has the old boiler-plate rudder from Mañana under his garden shed in Sheringham. He might be able to weigh it for you (he's at brianandjanet@btinternet.com ) He replaced it with a Parker 21 rudder at my suggestion and was delighted with the effect it had on the balance and ease of raising. He is now a Shrimper so we don't see him on here any more!
