Since we bought Lyra (II) last year and sailed her home to the Netherlands we have done a lot of work on her, and we're still busy.

I thought I found an oval anode on the port side, (about 1 meter from the stern) that looked unaffected by the seawater; it was completely covered with antifouling, so no surprise there.

But when I cleaned it, I found solid brass ( or bronze) It is attached with 2 bolts, which each hold a small zinc anode, recessed in the brass.

Size is about 15 x 7 cm.

Can anyone tell me what it is ?

Thank you !

Hi Jos

It’s Chris from Sula, we corresponded last year and met by one of the locks close to your marina.

I put one of these on Sula, What you have found is I think a “keel Cooler” unit for your fridge, coolant pumps from cooling unit to the keel cooler, with the water cooling it down, ours works very well, and after research I went for this as being more efficient that a fan type cooler, also made installation easier.

I am away till Tuesday, but on a quick google search, I think I bought mine through penguin kuranda cooling, but can look up the details on what I bought if helpful, see link below.

Hopefully you can see the keel cooling unit on their website. I should add that the zinc anodes do need replacing, so keep an eye on them

Not heading to Holland this year, but maybe 2027

Hope this helps
