Also had a chance to try out the storm jib on the sharp beat home from the Ore yesterday. An interesting design. It's 8 years old, came with the boat and appeared never to have been out of the bag.
It is a "wraparound" design which hoists by sliding up over the rolled-up genoa. The "foil" which results is very efficient, and minimal luff tension is required because the luff is supported over its whole length. The "wraparound" fastens back on the sail using piston hanks onto webbing loops.
Mine is by Hyde, but looking on the net the design is available from many sailmakers.
Stupidly I didn't take any pictures, but I was a bit busy at the time!
