I have a clause in my insurance which limits the pay out on items like masts, spars, sales, covers, outboard motors, and 10% of the value of the items is deducted for every year of age. If any of the items are over 10 years old obviously you will get nothing. Had I realised this earlier I would have negotiated and agreed a smaller value for my boat at the outset and hence avoid argument in the event of a claim, and hence could have paid less for the insurance.
