Hi: Following the investigation into the fatality when a RS Venture capsized resulting in the keel retracting and the boat inverting, (plus a coupe of incidents at our club) our fleet Captain is now suggesting that all cruisers with lifting keels at the club should be fitted with a keel retainer that would prevent the keel from retracting in the every of a knockdown or capsize.

This would be simple on some boats as a webbing strap could be installed on top of keel box (which I think he has done on his Hawk 20) but this can't apply to the Parker 21 given the design.

Has anyone actually fitted a keel retainer to their Parker 21 or indeed any similar design where the keel box is integral to the hull and moulded through the cabin.

Thanks

David
