I recently damaged my shoulder, and have been looking for a longer winch handle to ease raising the keel. You can pay a lot for a long handle , and most are 10 or 12 inches long. I got
- an 18 inch socket spanner from B&Q (about £10)
- an Ebrmweio winch adapter from Amazon, about £20
- a socket from my box of spares
- an adapter from the socket spanner from 1/2 inch to fit the socket , also from my box of bits
Plan to put a tennis ball on the end for comfort. I had to shorten the tang of the adapter so the socket would fit, and glued on the socket with epoxy

Thanks for the info Jim. As time goes by, I am finding raising the keel more of a challenge, so would be interested to see how this works.

Worked pretty well I think! I could use the 2 speed winch in both directions, which I couldn't do with the normal winch handle
You need to drop the sprayhood obviously as the handle is quite long
I don't think it necessary to have a long socket as in the picture, as there is a pin joint at the end of the handle, and the sprayhood drops quite low. I was worried the long socket would make it unstable ,however it worked ok
