Yippee! Boat 51 is launched and floating!

Well, I left home at 7am Friday to go all of 6 miles to Tobermory (single track roads...wanted to avoid the six van morning rush hour!) and mast was up and rigged by midday. Wind and on-shore waves not kind but eventually went for it and launched at 5pm (this was high tide, thus avoiding 90 degree elbow half way down slipway!).

So here is "Exodus" afloat in Tobermory:

Thanks for all your advice so far...now, how do I rig those sails?!

Congrats Stephen. Looks brilliant. Mine has been afloat for 2 weeks now on a pontoon, and goes onto its mooring this weekend.

Hard to do any work on it alongside because of the constant stream of people coming up to ask questions. General consensus is that it is a very attractive and practical small yacht.

Sails were a doddle to fit, and the stackpack system is brilliant. Had a bit of a problem getting all the bits of string sorted out, and still not sure if they are ideal but Bill Parker was very helpful and I will play some more after a few sails.

I needed to tighten my forestay a little more than originally set up but that only took a moment.

Finding there is lots of room to stow things. Very pleased indeed.

Yes David - I know what you mean about iteruptions to ask questions!!

I am going on to sort sails next, so much to do but all pleasant work now it is safely afloat!

Thanks Graham - there seemed to be little time for Champers - what with new engine running, no keel down, rudder to lower, rocks to avoid and on shore wind....! Did have a beer when I got home tho!

ever since a diving trip from tobermory i have always dreamed of getting my boat up there, just out of interest what do you pay for your mooring per annum

I hardly dare tell you..[:I].. I might get lynched!

Let's say that the annual fee for my mooring is under £100!

I am responsible for the riser and buoy etc, so that cost me an initial £250 last year for diver and materials, but it should last me several years, with just an annual dive check each spring, about £30.

There is a waiting list of 40 people though, and I waited two years. With talk of a National Park up here it may become even more popular, so prices will probably rise.

But pretty good value eh?!!![:D]
