Hello everyone.

I'm looking for an old outboard to play with in preparation for possible use on my Sinbad. I have read an old thread regarding long vs short shaft and the concerns that in a swell a shortie will come out of the water.

Would it make much difference on a lake or the Broads, or is it just better to go for a long shaft anyway?

And does anyone know the depth of the mounting in the well? (I would measure mine but it's a long journey!)

Floyd

Hi Floyd, this is Floyd here.

I've now been to the boat and measured it for you. It's about 15 inches from the top of the mounting to the bottom of the hull so the little short shaft Johnson you bought on Ebay should just about be alright, as it's 17 inches to the top of the cavitation plate.

Thanks Floyd.

That's OK Floyd.

Any other questions?

Well I would ask what thickness the rivets are at the foot of the Proctor mast but I'll probably be dead before anyone replies.

OK, Cheers Floyd.
