My P27 came with a sprayhood in very bad shape - so I haven´t used it. But I plan to order a new one using the old frame. I see one potential problem however. When I don´t want to use the hood it will come down right on top of the rope clutches on the roof. I think this will be very irritating. Does anyone have the same problem? Can you live with it?

I don´t know if my sprayhood is a "standard" or if it is something the previous owner added later.

I know just what you mean. I don't think I've seen a standard sprayhood on the P27 and P275 yachts that I see. On Vol-au-vent, I do indeed have to temporarily lift up the lowered spray hood each time I access the clutches. The spray hood is now on its last months of life as it starts to fall apart. If we can replace it, and not drill any new holes, and still easily see over the top when sailing, and then get access to the clutches when it is lowered, I feel it will be a miracle. But we'll try. If you find a solution first, please do report it here.

On Cascada I installed a slightly larger(taller) sprayhood the first winter after I bought her. Entering and exiting the companionway with the old hood was nigh impossible for my 6' 1" and 95Kg!

This is some 100mm higher than the old "standard" hood which had to fold inside the mainsheet track which runs across the coachroof. The new hood has the consequential added advantage that it folds further forward (because of the increased radius) and with some judicious folding of the hood I can tuck the folds just behind the clutches.

My mainsheet takes off from the end of the boom to a Wichard folding strongpoint in the cockpit floor. I am still pondering how to fit a meaningful traveller that does not transit the bridgedeck!

275/30 "Cascada"

I too have dispensed with the mainsheet horse on the coachroof, but have managed to keep access to five clutches each side of the coachroof. The winches are just about usable with the hood up but with only 1/3 of a turn each. Headroom is enough for me (6ft) and i have added a foam insert around the tube in the aftmost frame to cushion any bangs.

The oringnal design had 2 telescopic removable 'struts' fitted centrally but in practice these did not prove necessary. There is also a zip in 'door' which fits across the back of the hood which has proved very useful overnight. I will try to post some pictures if our moderator can explain how! - or can email direct. If you have any q's let me know

Thank you all for your replies. I too have the mainsheet to a strongpoint on the cockpit floor (and I am also thinking about a traveller). So raising the frame a bit might be a solution. I will make some measurements in the weekend. Your hood looks really nice, Chris. And Martexmarine seems to have fair prices. A new hood, using the old frame, will cost me about GBP 450 in Sweden.
