I've had both, my seal 22 had a bolt rope but when I fitted a new mainsail to my Jeanneau Bahia I went for loose footed, and fully battened, which I preferred.
Much easier to see any changes made to foot tension and the full battens plus lazyjacks or stackaway make for very easy dropping the main.
