Does anyone have an effective way of holding the outboard well blanking plate in place? The fittings that I inherited don't seem to be of any use.

I was going to ask the same question! At the moment I use a couple of springy sail battens wedged between the plate and the outboard motor mount, but they're not brilliant. Next plan is to put something relatively heavy on top - maybe the kedge anchor (could be awkward it falls through!)

Well, after a week of experimenting, I'm now using a bucket with a couple of full 2-litre water bottles in it to hold the blanking plate in place. Works well enough.

I've now made a gadget to hold the blanking plate down, which seems to work so far!

There's neoprene hatch tape on the edges

Hats off to you Geoff! A clever bit of engineering. I will try to do something similar later, but it will have to wait until I get a bit more sailing under my belt this summer.
