Paul

Try putting a capacitor across the 12 volt supply lead to the depth sounder and/or one across the charging lead.

Use a capacitor with a value of about 1000 micro farad, and at least 50 volt rating.

Paul,

Is it safe to remove charging lead when outboard is running? I think I read in manual that this could damage charging relay.

There is no relay just a basic rectifier. Many outboard don't use the charging circuit ie. tenders etc. So removing the charging lead shouldn't effect it..(I hope)

Paul I think your are right. When purchased my 6HP Tohatsu I asked about the charging circuit being connected and was told by the authorised dealer that it would not harm anything if left unconnected. It is such a wimpy out it is not worth bothering with.

Ditto Graham - I checked with Tohatsu before flushing mine through in a fresh water barrel, they said it didn't matter if it wasn't connected to anything.
