What is your source Paul? I know the website is down, and I saw your post on YBW. How did you hear?

Don has announced it above.....

Also I spoke to a good friend of the Parker family and he was not saying much, but kind of said it could well be true.

Bruce and his son come sailing at our club on a Wed...will quiz him tomorrow.

All,

I have received a letter from Bill confirming the closure and thanking the Assocation members for their past support. On behalf of all members, I have replied to express our appreciation of the many good things that the whole Parker team has done for us over the years, and to hope that Bill's team either finds comfort in retirement or quickly finds alternative employment where their craftsman ship can be equally appreciated. Your Committee will make plans to help Bill retire with a well deserved smile on his face. More on that later.

Clearly there are many questions at the moment. Until we find answers I will hold back on speculation. I have written to Bill asking that the Association be put in contact with the administrators. If the business is not rescued as a going concern, the PSSA will attempt to acquire and house any useful equipment that will help members continue to service and maintain their yachts.

Meanwhile, our thoughts go out to Bill's team, including Bruce, who have been made redundant. These are difficult times indeed.

I am very sorry to hear Parkers have ceased trading. We only picked up our new P235 at the end of April (number 69) from Bill and towed it back to Holyhead and across the Irish Sea to Co. Wicklow where it is now on a swing mooring at Wicklow Sailing Club. I guess we have the last one to be built. We did a lot of research last year as to what boat to go for and whether to buy second hand or new. The P235 ticked all the boxes. We are very pleased with it so far - easy to handle and lots of space below - we plan to trail it down to West Cork in a few weeks for a three week holiday. It tows really well behind our Discovery.

We have found the forum really helpful in getting the boat rigged and launched and look forward to having a great time - I took early retirement today.

I'm shocked. What a shame. Commiserations to all employees, and to those who possibly have boats on order? What a sign of the times and potential loss of fantastic range of yachts - let's hope a buyer can be found to continue to manufacture our great boats.

I see on the YBW site that Bruce is to keep building the Squib let's hope that he can get back into the lift keels when times get better.
I join with the other members in sending my best wishes to Bill for the future and thank him for the help he and his team have given me in the past

I cannot believe that such a good company such as Parker should have to cease trading but I guess in the current climate no company is safe.
It was such a wonderful experience being able to deal direct with the company and get good, sound advice and benefit from their experience.
I would also like to send my best wishes to Bill Parker, family and employees.
