Yachtsman dismasted near Azores

A solo sailor has been dismasted 15 miles from the Azores. John Margarson, sailing Muffin, a Parker 30 is now under power struggling towards Terceira.
It is a bitter blow for the yachtsman who was competing in the Jester Azores Challenge.
He was caught in a gale and hit by a large wave resulting in the loss of his mast.

As previous owners of Muffin we had a vicarious interest in the success of John and the boat. To bring the thread up to date I attach a scrap of his last e-mail which I think demonstrates the unique sporting spirit of this event.
