Writing this with a Force 10 blowing outside, Newtown River last July seems like another world in which the greatest worry was how to stop the ice from melting. Newtown River is certainly the perfect spot for those blissful summer days, a swim or a paddle up the river followed by a drink with friends and a barbeque on the beach till the sun goes down. But even if the weather falls short this time Newtown River has much to offer, a sheltered anchorage if you carry on up the river a bit, pleasant walking and a welcoming pub in Shalfeet. Come and join us whatever the weather, within reason.

Please let us know if you are intending to come.

Well there’s no World Cup interest to distract you, and though the weather isn’t going to be quite as sublime as we’ve become used to it should be ok. So come along to Newtown River. We have 11 boats coming so far if their skippers are to be believed: Vol au Vent, Frith, Abacus, Zephyr, Speedwell, Sophia, No Dramas, Breeze, Ruby Star, Elsa and Tara.

We are planning drinks on Tara at 5.30 before going ashore to the spit for a barbeque. We are also hoping to arrange an optional activity in the afternoon for the early arrivals. Further details nearer the time.
