The outhaul of the mailsail consists of a metal wire connected to the clew of the mainsail. In the boom there is a small free floating double block. A rope is somewhere attached in the boom near the goose neck and runs through the double block (once !) and comes out of the boom at the gooseneck and it is tied to a cleat on the mast.

I can’t find where the rope starts at the gooseneck end. I did find a lot of ‘spagnum’, so in the past some animal must have made a nest in the boom.

Is it original that only half of the double block is used as the rope makes a single pass? I want to replace this rope.

I guess nobody has a clue where the outhaul is tied inside the boom.

On out boat (335/50) the end of the outhaul is attached to the gooseneck (forward) cast end fitting inside the boom. The only way to access it is to drill out the pop rivets attaching the cast end fitting to the aluminium extrusion of the boom.

Thank for your confirmation Martin. I already was afraid it would come to drilling out some popnails. Will probably do that after the season.
