I am in the process of contemplating buying a Seal 22, even though other sailing friends dislike the idea of them being so open. My main problem is I don't know the pros and cons of the different Mk's and would be grateful for some advice.

I don't think your friends realise just how much cabin space there is in a 22 and I don't consider the size of the cockpit is anything out of the ordinary.

Re which mark - go for the latest you can find, and afford.

The mark 3 with the outboard well and proper hinged forehatch is best.
On a summer day there's nothing to beat the open cabin which becomes an extension of the cockpit.
