I have just acquired a Parker 21, no 42, built circa 1991. I have always been active in local club racing with previous yachts. Can anyone advise me of a current PY number (someone suggested 1063 to me).

Also any tips would be welcome. I intend to take the outboard (6 hp Tohatsu 4 stroke) out the well for racing and lay it in the cockpit locker. I'm a bit worried about this - oil leaks etc. Does anyone do anything similar?

Also I am keen to obtain/make a "plug" for the outboard well for insertion during racing. Does anyone know if this can be bought or have a suitable design?

Finally there is no track for the mainsheet on the boat I have bought. It is clipped to the floor of the cockpit. Does anyone have any experience of fitting and using a track?

1063 is the number for a standard 21 with motor raised for racing. Christchurch S C are still in old money and I seem to have settled at 106 so it's probably about right.

Bill Parker will sell you a plug for the hole but you will need better than the standard clips to hold it down, and a piece of strong string to attach it so that if it lets go you don't lose it!

I leave mine in position because our finish line is a bit near the beach and it's sometimes necessary to get it going VERY soon after crossing the line! If you leave it out of gear (prop spinning) there's hardly any drag.

I've fitted a Barton mainsheet track across the bridgedeck and I've yet to contrive a system to enable crew to dump the main from the side-deck. It works very well otherwise and is great for keeping the boom off to one side in harbour so you don't brain yourself every time you come up from below.

Your boat has an illustrious history having been owned in the past by our honoured Commodore Clifford Miller! Frank Datson didn't keep it long then did he?
