A bit of a trudge from your neck of the woods but my local chandlery, Christchurch Boat Shop, found me a new staunchion identical to the one carried away by another boat (parked!).
And we have a couple of outfits in our local industrial estate who can make stainless things like pulpits. I'm sure "stainless steel fabricators" in your yellow pages would oblige.
