I thought I'd mention one of the little jobs I've done over the winter. As soon as I started using Kinky, I realised there was a lack of food preparation space on the 235, especially since my table is used as a chart table. I've made a plywood counter top that clips over the lip of the worktop, adjacent to the end of the stove. It's about 60cms long and has a detachable leg at the other end. Makes an ideal prep area/table when I'm sitting next to the sink.

Has anybody else made useful mods to their 235's?

(By the way, I just bought the crystals from Woolworths so thanks for the tip)

I'll take some next time I'm down there. It could be this week if the weather's okay.

I had her out twice last week, including an overnight stay at Yarmouth. It was a bit chilly sleeping on board, but I'm now fixed up with shore power and a fan heater, so next time should be warmer. I decided to go with the RCD trailing socket in the end, rather than drilling lots of holes.

We did something similar but possibly took less carpentry. Basically as the leg for the cabin table is not being used when the chart table is in use, we just bought a small wooden tray and an extra socket for the leg, glued a padding piece of wood to the bottom of the tray and screwed the socket on to that.

Put the socket on excentrically so that with the small tray that we boutgh,it does not get in the way when trying to go to the loo at night. It does provide a usful spot to put things when cooking (or mugs of tea at other times). As a consequence I rarely have to move my chart table from its 'proper' place, and we don't normally have to find places to stow the leg (it could be lethal if left up without a top on).

The tray is about 2ft x 1ft with fiddle edges and only cost a few quid. The expensive piece was the new socket.

Mainly Margarets idea, works very well, however,I can see the benefits of what you have done as well.

I've thought about doing the same. You can get the support on ebay, from a company called Rainbow Conversions. I thinks it's £6.99 for a white one and a little more for chrome. That's the cheapest I've seen them

Here are some pictures of the counter top. You'll see that I can sit at the sink and use it as a table or food preparation area. It works for me.

You'll also see that I have emergency oars fastened to the front of the starboard locker, in case of outboard failure in the river.

This is Margarets table, looking cluttered as usual (in port). What the picture doesn't show is that the table leg is at the port/aft end of the table so that it doesn;t interfere with going to the loo from either bunk. I beleive the tray came from John Lewis. I glued a base onto it to on which I screwed the socket.
