The cockpit drain on my recently acquired Mk1 seems barely up to the job - a single smallish bore pipe (virtually horizontal) from the back of the cockpit to the lowest point of the transom slightly stb of the centreline. With 2 adults aboard, when heeled to stb, a few inches of seawater seem to flow back into the cockpit (it drains out when back upright). Also, it would take an age to drain if a large amount of water found its way aboard.

Is this the original design?

Has anyone come up with an improvement?

Thanks,

Andrew

This may be of no use.

But have sailed mine with winch just out of water and motored in force six and seven gale's (not by choice) never had to worry about water buiding up in copit floor.

Crew used to worry more about water comming in through hole for leg fittings on side when she was heeled over. my drain is original in a Mk 2
