When the keel is raised up on a Seal 22, does it go all the way in to the fiberglass or is some of the keel left visible outside and if so approximately how many cm in length of the keel is left outside visible? The question is posed by a prospective new owner who is concerned about the implications of grounding on a sandy beach and surmised that the boat was designed to have a flat bottom(i.e. no protrusion of the keel)for that purpose.

The square-section bulb on the bottom of the keel doesn't retract flush with the bottom of the hull and in addition there is a fairing round the keel slot in the hull which means that the bottom of the keel effectively sticks out about 20cm. This sinks into the soft mud we have round here but the boat does lean over as shown when you dry out on sand.

If your going onto sand you need a set of leg's but in mud mine sits upright

if you need to look at some legs and were they fit there is several 22 around with legs'

I'm willing to let you look at mine if you want. I'm Based around Portsmouth.
