I was coming back into the Exe this week and went up into the wind to begin lowering the main and was astonished to see the boom had detached from the mast! Lashed it on temporarily and took the sail down and then when back on the mooring began investigating the damage. The mystery is that there are no "broken" parts although the fittings are very badly worn and there is a fracture appearing in the mast fitting but THE PIN WAS STILL IN PLACE with both the upper and lower lugs intact!!! I will try and attach photos but it looks like Allspars in Plymouth can rebuild this.
Anyone heard of this happening before?
