So Beeline was lying innocently at rest on the yard for the winter with the mast tied along the coach roof secured in the tabernacle and for and aft. A man comes by with his Drascombe lugger on a trailer and the mast up. The top of his mast hits the end of mine overhanging the bow. Pinned in the middle by the steel tabernacle my mast folds in half. Bang!
The interesting question is who pays for the replacement, car or boat insurer? It would seem the Boat insurers have conceded and I am having a brand new Z spar from the original spec delivered to Allspars in Plymouth this month. I am paying to have new standing rigging and a new Furlex but the rest is all covered by my excellent Insurer Pantaenius who have their officed next door to Allspars.
Moral of this tale? Don't place the mast in the tabernacle so it can give way without snapping if knocked sideways by a moron??
