I don't know what your bolt is like but ours was so small and fiddly I asked a marine fabricator if he'd make a more 'beefier' one.

Here's the result, with the old one in the foreground of the picture. It looks like there's something in the loop of the our new one but it's in the background and the loop is clear for ease of grip).
