Hi.

Looking to fit a new forestay and furling unit to my Parker Seal 22

Looking for advice on the length of the forestay and if a bottlescrew is needed.

The current forestay is very slack.

Looking at the Plastimo range and wondering if a Plastimo 406 or 609 will fit the bill.

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Dan

From the Handbook [which Members can buy from the PSSA for £10, Dan]:-

- the actual Forestay itself was specified as 23'9' in 1x19strand, 4mm dia. stainless.

- the Luff of the optional extra IOR/Racing Genoa was given as 23.3ft, that of the supplied as standard Cruising Genoa was 22.5ft

From an original full size drawing:-

- swaged eyes both ends of Forestay

- top pinned straight to forestay tang

- 5/16' fork and fork rigging screw straight onto second hole back on bow roller [1st hole = anchor chain locking pin, 3rd hole = jib tack, 4th hole = Spare]

So if you find out the length from pin to pin of a closed 5/16" rigging screw, I think that you should have enough info to be able to select and specify a furler.

Thanks Geoff. That was very helpful.

I'll check the Jib that we have for size as its probably not the original

I think the Plastimo 609 with the rigging screw option will work

There is a rigging screw on the forestay today but the existing furler extends it and I think this makes it too long.

The furler is a stainless steel model and is structural in that the bottlescrew is attached to the bottom of it and the forestay to the top of it.

I wont be at the boat for a two week but will check and post a photo.
