Have just purchased a S22 and wondered if anybody has come up with an easy way of raising and lowering the mast? I'm reluctant to fit a tabernacle or an "A" frame, but need something that me and the missus can handle afloat.

Hi Paul
When i had my 22 i used a tried and tested method by several 22 owners at the time

1) put the spinny pole facing forward with the spinny halyard to it.
2) strap the boom (so it does not move)from port to starboard in front of the mast and tie it down to the gunnel's (i found a rope under the boat was best.
3) from the outer ends of the boom tie rope from the boom to the spinny pole
this will give you an A frame, use the main sheet and attach to the outer end of the spinny pole and attach to the bow rolled and use this a a purchase
ease off toe forestay and attach a line to it and take it forward of boat to use as a second line

this worked well for me
There should be a diagram in the 22 handbook

be careful if putting up not to get the bottle screws twisted as i broke a deck fitting one year.

Alternatively if u have 3 people it is light enough to put up by hand

one on the foredeck with the forestay and one in cockpit lifting and third on the coach roof and in team effor lift or lower
best of luck.
