I have an irritating little squeal seemingly coming from the propellor shaft aft end in both ahead and astern. This has only occured since I refitted the engine after rebuild but this may just be coincidence. Very great care was taken to set and recheck coupling alignment in angular and axial alignment with feeler guages.

It seems likely that all is not well with the cutless bearing and it may need replacement before shaft wear occurs.

Has anyone experience of removing the standard folding 2 blade prop (Gori?)and getting the bearing out of the stern tube/log moulding? How many/where are grub screws?

Could the shaft be left in place and bearing replaced if dried out between tides?

By the way, she lives in a drying mud-berth but I can't see how the mud would cause a problem.

Any hard won experience may help me better prepared - anything welcome.

Thanks,

Phil
