Hi. Just read that the last 4 years have been very wet, so my thoughts are turning again to a cockpit enclosure for the 235. I have seen one on the Beaulieu river, can anyone let me know if they have had one made, who by, whether it was any good, and how much it cost?

If you mean the one that is fitted on Tarka, I made enquiries with the manufacturer about 2 months ago. He said it would be best to replace the sprayhood since it will have stretched. If not replaced, then the two parts would look unsightly since they would stretch and fade separately. His quote was £1540, which put me off. Also, it would mean drilling about 16 holes around the cockpit which I wasn't keen on. Lastly, if it was wet overnight, then you would have to pack all that wet canvass away somewhere, without it getting dirty. I also got a quote from Covercare at Thornham which was £1250, using the existing sprayhood. If you want to progress with the Tarka option, let me know and I'll email you the details.

Thanks Paul, I had not expected quite that many holes to be required, but if you could let me know Takka's manufacturer I might take it further. I had got resigned to replacing the spray hood shortly in any case.

Hello Jim,

Have you considered a Habitent (www.habitent.com ), as featured in PBO a few months ago? There is now a smaller version that should fit the 235. I'm toying with getting one - just not quite sure how much we'd use it and it's something else to stow. It seems expensive for what it is but it's much cheaper than a custom-made enclosure.

My P235 came with a rear panel that zips onto the standard sprayhood - I think there's just two popper fittings in the cockpit to hold the base down. It straddles the cockpit benches so allows airflow yet keeps the rain out. It's not like a Habitent so there's no room to sit out, but it's better than sitting down below with the washboard in.

Apologies if you've alrady considered and rejected this option!

Thanks, Zephyr parked near us is like that, and although it looks quite good, I already have an under boom tent which is fine for ventilation but is a bit dark, and restricted in head room if 4 of you are sitting out. Also rain gets in from the side if it is windy. It will probably be the habitent or stick with what I have got.

I have taken the plunge and bought a Habitent. Seems reasonaby well made and the poles are more sophisticated than I thought they would be (glassfibre with metal ends, so lighter weight). If anyone wants to inspect, should be afloat from Easter at Bucklers Hard
