I've noticed there is a small amount of play in the top and bottom rudder attachment fittings.
Is this normal?
Should the bolts or the complete fitting be changed.
Thanks in advance.

Don

I have a Parker 275. I assume the rudders are similar. On mine there was a quite lot of play to allow the rudder stock to move vertically on the bolts. I overcame this by inserting washers to take up the slack. This was Bill Parker's recommendation.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tim,
thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the play in the rudder is horizontal not vertical.

Dear Mr Gleeson,

Further to your e-mail of the 26th.

Yes it is bolt or fitting wear, providing everything is in good order. The standard bolt should be 12mm for rudder fitting, you could try to obtain A4 Stainless Steel 1/2" imperial which of course is slightly larger to get tighter fit.

Yours sincerely,

W Parker.
